Preparation is Overrated

We are unprepared to do something for the first time, always.

We've beeen so terrified into blieving in the importance of preparation

that it's spilled over into that other realm,

the realm of life where we have no choice but to be unprepared.

If you demand that everything that happens be something you

are adequately prepared for, we wonder if you've chosen never to leap

in ways that we need you to leap.

My projects have taught me three truths about preparation:

Preparation is often avoidance.

Preparation is often driven by fear.

Preparation does not guarantee success.

There is such a thing as preparing too much.

Preparation is overrated.

You do not need extensive experience to start a project. Much more key to your project's success is your ability to keep trying and your decision to show up everyday to get the work done.

Pull from your experiences, yes, but do not limit yourself by assuming you need experience before you start.

No one who successfully launches a project feels adequately prepared or experienced. Do not wait!

Which of your projects is ready to be started or completed now, but has been put off because you feel you need more experience or preparation?
